BOISE — Two eastern Idaho pitmasters will join competitive barbecue teams from across the West to compete for the Idaho state championship at the second annual Rock’n Brews & BBQ Festival on Sept. 16 at the Boise Spectrum.
The festival is a qualifier for Kansas City Barbeque Society national championship.
Pitmaster BarBQue Co. owner Rob Harding, of Idaho Falls, and Ryan Patterson, of Pocatello, will go head-to-head against some of the nation’s top pitmasters.
The winner of the Kansas City Barbeque Society-sanctioned event will receive a berth into the 2018 Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational Barbecue in Lynchburg, Tenn. Competitors also will compete for a total of more than $9,000 in cash prizes in four categories.
The event is open to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 16, but pitmasters start cooking Sept. 15.
Attendees will be able to take in the sights and smells of a professional barbecue competition while being able to purchase food from event vendors. Those over age 21 will be able to purchase tickets for beer tastings to sample beers from Idaho breweries.
Local vendors will showcase their products to help you up your barbecue game. Even with all those barbecue-centric activities it wouldn’t be a festival without great music, so event organizers have arranged for a lineup of bands to take the stage at the Boise Spectrum. They’ve also thrown in a car show.
The event is being presented by the Idaho Press-Tribune with sponsors including D&B Supply, Agri Beef Co., Snake River Farms, Legends Pub & Grill and Event Rents.
