BLACKFOOT — A Blackfoot woman was charged July 2 after she attempted to strangle a man in June after an argument.
The victim told a Blackfoot Police Department officer that he had been arguing with Melissa Heath, 31, since the day prior to the incident on June 29. He told the officer he was tired after two days of argument and went to sleep.
According to a police report, Heath followed him into a bedroom and began poking and arguing with him. The victim said Heath then jumped on top of him and began choking him with both hands. He told police he was struggling to breathe and was unable to yell at her to stop. The victim said he eventually pushed her off and pinned her down to stop the attack.
The officer wrote in his report the victim had red marks on his neck. Heath gave the same explanation of what happened to police and admitted to choking him.
Heath was charged with attempted strangulation, punishable with up to 15 years in prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in Bingham County Courthouse.
