Letter to the editor: Hunting, not ‘cleaning’

Hunting, not ‘cleaning’

Received May 15

What on earth did Maria Nate mean when she said she came across Diana Yates’ letter to her mother while she was “cleaning out her computer”? You don’t clean out a computer as if it were a closet. If she wanted to contact her dying mother’s friends, the right place to start would be her contacts list, and maybe a few mailboxes to see if the “From” field popped up a few additional names. If she planned to sell or donate the computer, she could re-format the hard drive to erase all personal files. To find and read the content of this particular message, she had to be reading her mother’s personal e-mail message by message. That woman was hunting, not “cleaning.” This gets creepier and creepier.
