Guest column: Women’s health care is at risk

Julie Custer

Governor Butch Otter’s recent executive order allows for the design and sale of health plans that fail to include important federal protections for women. An initial proposal for “state-based” plans would have reduced premiums for some Idahoans, but only by allowing insurers to exclude coverage such as for pre-existing conditions and maternity care. Allowing health plans to be sold in Idaho that fail to protect critical women’s health care services would take us in the wrong direction.
