Guest column: Remembering 1918 on Idaho Day

(Photo courtesy of Linden Bateman) Leland Hansen each year would visit Bateman's history classes at Bonneville High, dressed in his World War I uniform, and tell stories of sacrifice and heroism he witnessed while serving in France. After contracting the flu, Hansen was nursed back to health by a young French nurse. After his recovery, he never saw her again.
