Here comes Banff

With the quality of the films getting better each year, it’s no wonder the local showing of the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour sells out in Idaho Falls.

As of Tuesday morning, there were only 10 seats left for the Jan. 25 show at the Colonial Theater. The Jan. 26 show at the same venue is sold out.

The festival comes to Idaho Falls courtesy of the Idaho Falls Nordic Ski Patrol.

This year’s lineup of films features extreme kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking, stunt skiing and storytelling tied to outdoor adventure. Expect to be wowed, thrilled and challenged with new ideas. Different movies are shown each night.

“The films we selected are many of the most popular that have been shown during the world tour according to feedback given to the tour directors,” said Clarke Kido, the ski patrol’s show coordinator.

If you’re one of the unlucky ones who didn’t get a ticket to the show, you have one more chance: Enter the Post Register’s Outdoors section photo/video contest. We have five pairs of tickets to give away to the Jan. 25 show. Email us your fun outdoor adventure photo by Jan. 15 to be eligible. We’re looking for high resolution, sharp images that show people having fun outside — preferably in our region, though that’s not a requirement.

Email your entries to jpinkham@postregister.com.

Kido said he’s looking forward to seeing a few films during the two nights.

“On Thursday night, there’s the film “Stumped” about a woman who is missing her lower left arm but doesn’t let that hold her back from being a really good rock climber,” he said. “On Friday night, we’ll see a short film about a kid daydreaming in the backseat of his car riding through town while a skier follows alongside doing back flips and flying over roofs, along rails and across the street. It’s a humorous look at skiing.”

Kido encourages those attending the show to arrive early so they can visit the gallery and other displays in the lobby. Many of the displays should be of interest to outdoor enthusiasts.
